A trilobite is a marine arthropod that is made up of three main parts and has a tough exoskeleton that gets shed as the organism grows. They can range from less than an inch to fourteen inches in length.
They are found in Paleozoic rocks and are about 570 million years old that lived for over 300 million years. Trilobites were a big part of the Cambrian period. They died out 245 million years ago at the end of the Paleozoic era.
Preservation
They are easily preserved as they have a hard shell that can be fossilized. Trilobites were fossilized in sedimentary rocks.
Who found the fossil/ Why is it the state fossil
It is not known to be discovered by any one person as trilobites have been found all over the world and was chosen as the the state fossil because no other fossil has gotten so much attention in Wisconsin.
